The Rotaract Club of Antigua is a vibrant organization comprised of young professionals aged 18-30 and we seek to always do more through making an impact on the communities which we are a part of.
The Rotaract Club of Antigua was originally founded by Rotarians, Patrick “Paddy” Benjamin and the late Anthony Michael and is a Rotary Club of Antigua sponsored community service club that was formally chartered on December 5th, 1986 and the club will officially be in existence for 30 years on 5th December, 2016. The Rotaract Club of Antigua is a part of a wider group of Rotaract Clubs known as District 7030. Our District includes Clubs from St. Kitts, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana.
Rotaract is an international organization of young persons sponsored by Rotary International. Over the years, hearing the name Rotary has become quite synonymous with volunteerism, sharing and individual development. It was through their drive to promote development of the individual that Rotary Clubs around the world began to sponsor university youth groups as community service projects. After embarking on this project, it was decided that this miniscule project could have international relevance and, hence, in 1968 it was approved as an official program which went by the name Rotaract which is a combination of the words Rotary and action. Soon after approval, the first club was chartered in North Carolina, USA on 13th March, 1968. Years later and the program is still going strong with an international network of over 7300 clubs in over 150 countries.
Rotaract emphasizes four avenues of service, these are: Community, International, Professional and Club Service.
Over the years, our Club has successfully carried out a variety of projects, which include but are not limited to our Annual Spelling Bee Competition, our Share the Cheer Donations, Know you status HIV/Aids Blood Testing Drive, Vector Borne Illness Prevention Projects and much more, these projects have significantly contributed to the overall development of our nation and the region.
The Club theme for this year is: “Inspire. Empower. Achieve”, which is geared towards inspiring others to serve humanity by way of the community projects done by the club, empowering members to take leadership roles by being the best they can be and achieving all the goals and plans set out for the Rotaract year in an effort to really impact people’s lives. Under this year’s theme, the club will celebrate 30 years of continued service, 30 years of fellowship, 30 years of volunteerism and 30 years of making a difference in our country of Antigua and Barbuda.
The Rotaract Club of Antigua holds meetings, usually every 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wednesday in every month at 7:30 p.m., at Rotary House located on the Corner of Factory Road and Nugent Avenue, which feature speakers, discussions, and other various activities. We also get together for other service projects, social activities, and leadership workshops. Beyond the club level, we as Rotaractors also take advantage of District Conferences, projects and training seminars.
