Prime Minister Encourages Antiguans and Barbudans to Support One Nation Concert

After a huge success at the first staging of the One Nation Concert, brainchild of Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne, thousands are looking forward to the second staging tomorrow, Saturday 13th January 2018.

Last year, over 10,000 persons packed the Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG) to witness the first of its kind, which cost the attendees nothing. After the concert, many Antiguans and Barbudans expressed appreciation for the well-attended concert, noting their delight for an evening of world class entertainment with a family friendly environment.  Thousands are expected once again at this year’s concert.

The Prime Minister, in his New Year’s message to the nation, spoke solemnly of his pride in Antigua and Barbuda and the unity we displayed after Hurricane Irma.  The One Nation Concert illustrates the nation’s inclusiveness of a variety of nationalities and the strength of the unity we displayed in times of adversity.

This year, the lineup showcases a number of local, regional and international acts which displays the nations’ multicultural makeup of nationals residing on island- showing the wider world of the homely nature the islands represent. This year, the lineup includes Christopher Martin, The original Burning Flames, Asa Banton, Tian Winter, Claudette Peters, Drastic, Slash Hopper, El Tropical, DJ Riddim Master and DJ Quest.

“The main reason we booked these artist is to basically make sure we captured some of the major islands that call Antigua home,” Chalita Rose, member of the organizing committee said.

A number of tourist are also expected to turn out to this year’s event. According to the organizing committee, marketing of the event was also done in the hotels and tourist related environments. Many visitors on island and the mature residents of the island are thoroughly excited about this year’s lineup, especially having the opportunity to see world renowned, Grammy award winning band – UB40.

The concert will start promptly at 7 pm at the ARG.
