Vincentian Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is set to deliver the 12th Dr Alister Francis Memorial Lecture hosted by the Antigua State College. The event is scheduled for Monday 21st March 2016 at 7:30 pm at the University of the West Indies Open Campus on Factory Road.
“Education is the cornerstone of the Caribbean civilisation, and I will explore the role it has played in the socio-economic development of our region. I enthusiastically look forward for the opportunity to elaborate on this and related issues with my brothers and sisters in Antigua,” Prime Minister Gonsalves said.
The Vincentian Prime Minister joins a long list of prestigious guest lecturers including University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor Sir Hillary Beckles, OECS Director General (then CXC Registrar) Dr Didacus Jules and Governor General of St Lucia Dame Pearlette Louisy.
“The College hosts the lecture series to celebrate the life’s work of our beloved founding principal – Dr Alister Francis so we invite some of the leading thinkers of the region to share their thoughts on education in a socio-economic and cultural context. The lectures are also in keeping with the College’s motto: ‘Per Doctrinam Potens’ – ‘Empowerment through education,” Principal Hyram Forde said.
The memorial lecture will be carried live on ABS Radio (90.5 FM) and, for the first time the will include an interactive component via social media. Audience members and those listening on radio will be able to send questions via e-mail, Facebook or Twitter.
