Antigua Police have refuted reports of any shooting and stabbing incidents coming out of Last Lap celebrations last evening.
“No reports of any shooting were ever reported to the police throughout the entire carnival season,” the lawmen said in a recent statement.
In light of that, the police have issued a stern warning to members of the public, who take it upon themselves to maliciously and insensitively circulate such false information on social media.
“It is a very dangerous practice, and those involved are asked to desist from doing so,” the police said.
Anyone caught in this act will be charged for ‘Causing Public Mischief’, as well as for committing offences under the Electronic Crimes Act of 2013.
“The Commissioner of Police, Wendel Robinson on behalf of the entire Rank and File of the police force, used the opportunity to thank the general public, including the media, for the overall support given to the police throughout the carnival season,” the statement said.
