Nationals Unite to Clean up Barbuda

The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission in partnership with the Barbuda Day Independence Committee successfully hosted the “Barbuda Clean-up Day” as part of the 36th anniversary Independence celebrations on Wednesday.

The Unity and Patriotism displayed by Fifty-four young and old Antiguan and Barbudan volunteers, was evident, as they all united to clean up the homes of fourteen Senior Citizens.

According to the Elderly they are indeed grateful and satisfied with the clean-up efforts noting that the volunteers got straight to work tidying their homes and removing debris and waste.

Volunteers were treated to a sumptuous meal provided by Joe Mikes Catering after a hard day of work. Additionally, Kennedy’s Company provided bottles of water and drinks for the participants which kept them hydrated and energized while they worked.

Chairman of the Barbuda Independence Clean-up Day, Yannick Beazer, says, “I want to go on record by saying the Barbuda clean-up day was a huge success, thank you to all the volunteers, supporting agencies, Samaritans Purse, Adventure Antigua, Barbuda Express, KB supplies Bakery and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda who took the time out to participate in this worthwhile venture”.

A special Thank you is extended to Samaritans Purse who provided a bucket filled with cleaning agents for each home as well as the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) who played a major role in organizing cleaning supplies and the Barbuda Express. We say Thank you.

The success of the cleanup day depends on volunteers, and key supporting agencies, we are grateful to those who took time out on Wednesday to assist with the cleanup initiative.

We hope you’ll join us again for another cleanup day as we continue to “Unite and Rebuild Barbuda”
