On Wednesday, 19th October, Wayne Worrell, 29 of Liberta, was convicted before the High Court on a charge of having Sexual Intercourse with a female under the age of 14 years. The conviction came after he entered a plea of guilty to the charge.

During the hearing, the court heard that in February of 2015, Worrell committed the unlawful act against the minor at her Michael’s Village home and the matter was later brought to the attention of the police. Officers within the Sexual Offences Unit conducted investigations into the report, where the said charge was subsequently levied against him.

Initially, Worrell was convicted before the Magistrates Court in July of this year, on a charge of breaking with intent. In this separate matter, it was revealed that he had broken into the home of the same victim, with intentions to commit a felony.

However, he was disturbed in his attempts after personnel from the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) received a tip off and responded promptly. As a result, he was sentenced to 18 months at Her Majesty’s Prison and was dismissed from the Police Force. At the time of his dismissal, Worrell had 7 years of service.

On the sexual offence charge, he was further remanded to HMP and is due to return before High Court Justice Ramdhani for sentencing on the 18th November, 2016.
