After twenty weeks of non-stop feting across Antigua and Barbuda, the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Antigua’s Carnival 2017, has certainly left its’ mark on the psyche of all it’s Patrons.
For the people of Antigua and Barbuda, the 60th anniversary was not only a period of recognition and celebration, showcasing the nation’s Cultural arts, Music and Mas, it was a period of reflection of our emancipation from slavery.
For over two weeks, thousands of residents, returning nationals and visitors basked in the wonderful Carnival atmosphere at (CARNIVAL CITY) buzzed with excitement, colourful costumes and rhythmic intoxicating Calypso and Soca beats. Carnival Lovers attended the nightly shows produced by the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission ranging from Pageantry, Party/ Calypso Monarch and steelpan shows.
Minister with responsibility for Culture and National Festivals, The Honourable E. P. Chet Greene says, “I would like to go on record as saying that Antigua’s Carnival 2017 was a resounding success. “I’d also like to thank all the major key Sponsors, Corporate citizens for their financial support, Carnival stakeholder groups, and all Government support agencies, Board Members and staff of the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission for their hard work and dedication to the success of the 2017 Festival”.
“A special Thank you is extended to all the Media Houses, particularly the Antigua and Barbuda broadcasting station (ABS) for their role in Promoting and advertising the Festival to a global Audience for the past five months”. Greene, congratulated ALL the winners for a job well done and expressed gratitude and a heartfelt thank you to all the contestants in the respective competitions.
The Carnival Minister, conveyed a special thank you to the former Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission, Maurice Merchant, for managing the overall production of the nation’s Cultural exhibits over the past two years. Antigua and Barbuda certainly celebrated and experienced GREATNESS for the sixtieth anniversary of Antigua’s Carnival 2017.
