The Police have initiated one of their new crime fighting strategies for 2016, by mounting a massive operation over the weekend, which resulted in several people getting arrested.
Operation “Clean Sweep,” as it was christened saw officers attached to the Rapid Response Unit, the Criminal Investigations Department and several other Stations setting up road blocks at every entrance and exit of the entire Grays Farm Community, in a “Lock & Freeze” manner. During the operation, a number of Search Warrants were executed on several homes for illegal firearms and controlled drugs.
Sandra Herbert, 25 and 23yrs-old Kadeem Edwards
both of Bolans along with 23yrs-old Donald Telemaque of Golden Grove and 40yrs-old Desery Glenn Lavinerre of Cooks New Extension were arrested and jointly charged with Possession of 51 grams of Cannabis and Possession with intent to transfer.
Several other persons were arrested and charged for Dangerous Driving, Driving unlicensed vehicles, Disorderly conduct and Battery on Police etc. Also, over 350 vehicles, coupled with a number of people were stopped and searched by the police in their exercise.
The Police vowed to continue targeting these “Hot Spots” as well as areas known for skirmishes and other criminal activities across the islands, in an effort to curb crime. They are therefore appealing to members of the general public for their continued support and cooperation in their efforts.
