Man Convicted and Fined for Firearm

Elvis Edwards, 53, of New Winthropes, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh at the St. John’s Magistrate Court on Monday, to answer charges of illegal firearm and ammunition possession, driving an unlicensed vehicle and driving without vehicle insurance. Edwards, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was convicted and fined on all counts

He was ordered to pay $10,000.00ECC on the charge of firearm possession, $10,000.00ECC for possession of ammunition, $5000.00ECC for driving an unlicensed vehicle and $3000.00ECC for driving without insurance. The fines are to be paid into the court in five (5) monthly installments, commencing 31st August, 2015. If in breach of the court’s order, Edwards will face two (2) years imprisonment.

The convict was nabbed by police last Tuesday, when they responded to a traffic collision on Dickenson Bay Street in which he was involved. Whilst on the scene, lawmen saw when he suspiciously entered then exited his motor truck and threw the .32 Pistol under the truck. The weapon, which was wrapped in a cloth at the time, was loaded with 6 rounds of matching ammunition.
