Following the issue of the Writ by his Excellency Sir Dr. Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, the date of the Barbuda Council Elections has been confirmed and will take place on Monday, March 27, 2017. Nomination day is on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.
The Barbuda Council is an 11 member body consisting of nine directly elected members and two ex-officio members (Barbuda’s House and Senate representatives in the national Parliament) who serve four-year terms. The 5 members who will be retiring their seats by rotation and who are eligible for re-election are Elvis Burton, Wayde Burton, Calvin Gore, Addie Newton and David Shaw. Council Elections happen every two years and the last election was held on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. The Supervisor of Elections is in charge of the conduct of the Council Elections.
