Following the issue of the Writ by His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, the date for a By-Election in Barbuda has been set.

Barbuda Local Government Council Elections are held statutorily every two years when either four or five members retire by rotation and they are governed by the BarbudaLocal Government Act, CAP. 44.

Outside of the regular Council Elections, a seat on the Council can become vacant due to the following reasons: the resignation of a member, the death of a member or as a result of a member missing three consecutive Council meetings without leave of the Chairman.

In this particular case, a vacancy was created under Section 7 of the Act giving cause for the holding of a By-Election.

This will be taking place on March 27 at the same time as Council Elections. Nomination day will be Wednesday 15thMarch.

The relevant Notices have been posted at various places in Barbuda.
